Data Explanation for NH Election Information

The house district page layout includes a unique benchmark:

House Benchmark A single table showing all district candidates, listing the proportion of the vote each candidate received per seat in the house district. As an example, if a district has one seat, and a candidate receives 30% of all votes cast, the benchmark value would be 0.30. If the district has four seats, and a candidate receives 20% of all votes cast, the benchmark value would be 0.80, because 20% of all votes represents 80% of the votes aligned to one of the four district seats (25% of the overall vote). Do not mistake house benchmarck values for classic Blue/Red comparisons in a two-way race. While it is generally true that benchmarks above 0.50 will indicate winners in house races, anomalies such as undervotes on district ballots can mean that candidates with less than 0.50 benchmarks can win house seats.

The standard district page layout is as follows:

Results tables Two tables side by side, in town order on the left, and descending Republican votes on the right.
Results percentage The table shows each polling place and its percentage of votes for the Republican candidate. The map shows what portion of the vote is Republican. Red towns voted Republican. Blue towns voted Democrat. Those in the middle are shades of purple (mixed blue and red).
Results portion The table shows each polling place and its portion of votes compared to the most vote-rich polling place of the district. The polling place with the most votes becomes the "benchmark" of the district, with the dark green map entry and a table value of 1.0. The other polling places have a table value showing the portion of vote they have compared to the most vote rich. Thus if the most votes were in a town with 1,000 votes, and the least in a town with 500, the high-vote town would be assigned 1.0 in the table, and the least-vote town would get 0.5 in the table. Vote rich areas are dark green. Vote poor areas are light green.
Registration The table shows registered voters in the district. Those with a high percentage of Republican registrations are dark blue. Those with a low percentage are light blue.
Turnout The table shows voter turnout for the district. Those with a high turnout are dark green. Those with a low turnout are light green.
